Allen's Schedule Turning Favorable, Utah Travel Roster, Scoring First Stats, Allen's Historical Road Record and More

If the pace of games played by the Allen Americans seems slow to you it is for good reason. Allen has played only seven games in the last month and just one home game since February 9 and the next home game isn't until March 17. But as the saying goes buckle up butter cup as things are about to change.

- After playing only seven games in the last month the Americans will play 17 games in the next month. From March 24 to May 5 Allen will play 22 games with 19 of them being at home. That is 19 home games and three road games (at Rapid City) in 42 days.

- If you look at the schedule by month April will be the chance for Allen to make hay. In April Allen will play 16 games with 13 at home. May will also be busy with 16 games but just six will be at home.

- Looking ahead the schedule is favorable for Allen but what they have to deal with right now are three games in three days in Utah starting tomorrow night. The team will practice today at the AEC and leave tonight on their flight to Salt Lake City.

 - Allen has played well against Utah with a record of 4-1 against the Grizzlies this season. The last time the Americans were in Utah they won two of three games. Over the last five seasons Allen's record in Utah is 9-5-0-1.

- Over their last 10 games both teams have almost identical records with Allen at 4-5-1-0 and Utah at 4-5-0-1. More recently Allen has won two of its last four games including a win over Utah while the Grizzlies have lost four straight games (all on the road).

- I will have a complete series preview tomorrow but it is clear the biggest key to this series is staying out of the penalty box and winning the special teams battle. Utah has the second ranked power play in the league converting on 27.0% (17-63) of its opportunities at home. Allen has one of the worst penalty kill percentages in the league with a road percentage of just 78.1% (14-64).

- Here is the travel roster for the trip to Utah. Players staying in Allen are Kameron Kielly, Frank DiChiara and Colby McAuley.

OTHER COMMENTS

 - Tulsa went on the road and beat Wichita last night 2-1. The teams play again in Wichita Friday and Saturday before traveling to Tulsa to play on Sunday afternoon.

- After the games this weekend Wichita will have played 21 games at home, 58% of the home games will be completed. Allen will have played 9 of 36 homes games with just 25% of its home schedule completed.

Scoring first in a game is a big advantage and makes some teams almost unbeatable. Leaguewide the ECHL points/win percentage when scoring first is .778. Seven teams have a points percentage of .800+ when scoring first. The best:

.929 - Fort Wayne
.885- Greenville
.875 - Allen
.867 - Orlando
.821 - Indy
.806 - Wichita
.800 - Kansas City

Wheeling at .455 is the only team below .500 when scoring first.
