Steffes & Baker Re-sign with Allen Plus Player Profile on Newcomer David Makowski

Along with announcing that Gary Steffes and Justin Baker would be returning to the Allen Americans for the 2015-2016 season the Americans also announced the signing of newcomer defenseman David Makowski on Tuesday. Not much needs to be said about Steffes and Baker with the contributions they made to the Kelly Cup Championship last season. Steffes led the ECHL in goals (44) and if you include regular season, playoffs, and his time spent in the AHL Gary had an unbelievable 61 goals last year. Justin Baker had a great rookie season with 52 points (13 goals 39 assists) during the regular season and playoffs and was named to the ECHL All-Rookie team. Here is a brief profile on David Makowski. Makowski will be joining teammates Steffes, Baker, and Greger Hanson in attending the San Jose Barracuda AHL training camp which will begin at the end of next week.

David Makowski

David Makowski is a 6' 1" 205 pound defenseman who was born in California and hails from St. Louis, Missouri. He has had success throughout his hockey career. After high school he played junior hockey and for the last two years of his junior career played for Green Bay in the USHL. His last year in juniors (2009-2010) his team won both the Clark Cup (playoffs) and Anderson Cup (regular season). David had 41 points that season (18 goals 23 assists), was named to the All-USHL First Team and was selected as the USHL Defenseman of the Year.

Makowski moved on from Green Bay to the University of Denver where he would play four years and finished his career with 93 points (27 goals 66 assists) in 142 games. As a senior he was captain of the team and helped Denver win the inaugural National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) Championship and a berth in the NCAA tournament. David, who received his degree in management, was also named to the NCAA All-Academic team.

DID YOU KNOW: David played with two former Allen Americans at the University of Denver, Anthony Maiani and John Ryder. Also, when he was a freshman he made ESPN's "plays of the day" when he scored a 180 foot shorthanded goal that has over 275,000 views. The video below is from last year when David was with the Wheeling Nailers. He talks about himself and the crazy goal.
