Allen hung with Kansas City last night, but the results were the same as every other game the teams have played this season. The Americans lost 4-3 to the Mavericks in typical fashion as of late. Allen gave up the first goal for the fifth time in the last six games. The Americans gave up the first goal early in the first period (4:06) and fought to get a lead the rest of the game.
- Allen tied the score midway through the first period on a power play goal by Ty Prefontaine, his sixth goal since joining the Americans 25 games ago. He is tied with Sam Sedley for the team lead in goals by a defenseman. Allen outshot Kansas City 12-7 in the first period, so all was looking good with a 1-1 tied at the first intermission.
- Things went downhill in the second period, as the Mavericks outshot the Americans 15-6 and outscored them 2-0 to take a 3-1 lead into the second intermission. Leading after the second period was the kiss of death for Allen. Kansas City has had a second-period lead 26 times this season and is a perfect 26-0-0-0.
- Allen dominated the third period, and when Jake Chiasson cut the score to 3-2 on his second goal since joining Allen nine games ago, it looked like a comeback was possible. That optimism was short-lived as the ECHL's leading scorer, defenseman Marcus Crawford, gave the Mavericks their two-goal lead back (4-2) a few minutes later.
- Allen cut the score to 4-3 with just under four minutes remaining in the game on Sam Stange's third goal in six games since joining Allen and his sixth goal in 10 games in the ECHL this season. The Americans pulled Costantini and even had a short power play to end the game (20 seconds), but could not get the tying goal. Allen outshot Kansas City 15-2 in the third period and 33-24 for the game, but had nothing to show for their effort.
- What didn't go well for Allen was it failed the three keys to the game.
- The Americans gave up the first goal. Their record when giving up the first goal is 10-17-2-0 (.379).
- Allen lost the special teams battle. The Americans were 1-6 on the power play; Kansas City was 2-5. Allen also had a penalty shot (missed) and a short (28-second) 5-on-3.
- Allen played from behind. The Americans trailed 3-1 after the second period. They are 2-15-2-0 (.158) when trailing after the second period.

MARTINSON'S COMMENTS
"I thought we outplayed them for much of the game and were more physical. The hits will add up if we continue to play that way. All three lines created some scoring chances."
"Against a team like Kansas City, the guys have to play with pace all the time, or they are not going to get anything done."
"I thought the big difference in the game was the power play. They scored two goals, and we scored one." I am confident that if we play our game on Friday, we will win."
"Colby McAuley is day-to-day, but could be ready by Friday."
" Jaxson Parsons will start in goal on Friday."
"Andre Anania has been loaned to the Iowa Wild."
