Allen Loses 2-1, Game Recap, Video Highlights, Coach's Comments, Best of the Rest Stats, Remaining Schedule, ECHL Attendance, ECHL Scoring, Les Lancaster Update

Yes, Allen played better in the 2-1 loss to Kansas City last night, but the pattern was all too familiar. The Americans fell behind in the first period and spend the rest of the game playing catch up. Friday night the Mavericks scored on their first and second shots of the game. Last night is was the first and fourth shot. Allen was out shot 20-5 and outscored 2-0 in the first period. The Americans made a valiant effort to comeback in the third period, outshooting Kansas City 17-9 and outscoring them 1-0, but it was too little, too late.

- Stats and facts:

  • With a 2-0 lead after the first period, Kansas City improved its record when leading after the first period to 22-0-0-0.
  • Allen finished the season series with Kansas City with a record of 1-9-0-0.
  • The team that scored the first goal won all 10 games.
  • Both teams were scoreless on the power play last night. Allen 0-2, KC 0-3.
  • Allen's record over the last 10 games dropped to 0-9-0-0.
  • KC's record over the last 10 games improved to 8-1-1-0.

- No doubt the two best players on the ice last night were the two goalies. Luke Richardson stopped 36 of 38 shots for a .947 save percentage. Jack LaFontaine led the Mavericks to victory stopping 26 of 27 shots for a save percentage of .963. It wasn't just the number of shots the goalies saved, it was the quality of the shots. Check out these highlights which show all of the goals including Allen's only goal by Mark Duarte. It was his 18th of the season, tying him for the team lead with Spencer Asuchak. The highlights also show many great saves by both goalies: https://echl.com/videos/allen-americans-vs-kansas-city-mavericks-feb-22-2025

- Here is the game recap from the Allen Americans with more game details: https://allenamericans.com/news/2025/02/americans-sweot-by-kc

- Here is what coach Ferguson had to say after the loss.

"Credit to Kansas City, they came out firing and jumped on us right out of the gate."

"There is no quit on this team. The guys pressed hard in the third period and credit to their goalie for making a big glove save on Crnkovic at the end."

"Richardson kept us in the game keeping it at 2-0 for the last 53 minutes."

"We will get back to work on Monday."

- How tough is Allen's schedule after playing three games against Kansas City on the road. The Americans will play three games on the road in Tahoe next week and then come home for three games against Jacksonville. All three of these teams have point percentage above .600. There are just three ECHL teams that have won eight of their last 10 games. Two of them are Kansas City and Jacksonville with identical 8-1-1-0 records. FYI, the third team is Rapid City.

OTHER COMMENTS

- In the race for the "Best of the Rest" a lot has happened in the last three weeks. At the beginning of February the point percentages were:

  • .405 - Allen
  • .402 - Utah
  • .381 - Rapid City

Today the point percentages are:

  • .480 - Rapid City
  • ,402 - Utah
  • .337 - Allen

Point percentage change since February 1st:

  • -.068 Allen
  • Even Utah
  • +.099 Rapid City

Record since February 1st:

  • 8-0-1-0: Rapid City
  • 4-5-1-1: Utah
  • 1-9-0-1: Allen

You can see there can be a lot of change in a short period of time. With just 20 games remaining it will take a big effort for Allen to avoid last place.

- Here are the point percentages for the teams Allen will play in the last 20 games, with games remaining in parenthesis:

  • .654 - Jacksonville (3H, 0A)
  • .625 - Wichita (0H, 1A)
  • .615 - Tahoe (0H, 3A)
  • .615 - Tulsa (4H, 0A)
  • .588 - Idaho (2H, 3A)
  • .402 - Utah (1H, 3A)

None of these games will be easy. With the exception of Utah they are all good teams fighting for playoff spots. And against Utah all three remaining games are on the road. I think it is fair to say Allen will be the underdog in all 20 remaining games. A huge challenge for the Americans.

-  If you look at the goals for and against in the Mountain Division you can see why the Americans have struggled. Allen has scored the division low of 130 goals. That is 62 fewer goals than the team with the most goals scored (192 - Tahoe). Allen has also allowed the most goals in the division with 218. That is 92 more goals allowed than the team with the fewest goals allowed (126 - Kansas City).

- The ECHL drew 83,326 fans last night. The average attendance for the 13 games played was 6410. The season average is up to 4923 and growing. The league has a good chance of surpassing last year's average of 4981 and could reach 5000 if there are a lot of tight playoff battles down the stretch.

- There are 78 players with 15+ goals thus far this season. I was surprised when putting the ECHL Stats post (see below) together this morning that neither Hank Crone or Colton Hargrove were on the list. Crone has 13 goals and Hargrove 10. What they do have in common is a bunch of assists. Crone leads Idaho with 49 points (13G, 36A). Hargrove leads Florida with 24 assists.

- Tommy Daniels mentioned former Allen defenseman Les Lancaster on his broadcast last night talking about high scoring Allen defenseman from the past. In 2020-21 Lancaster had 64 points (26G, 38A). He was #4 among all players in points and #7 in goals. Not bad for a defenseman. His 26 goals was twice as many as any other defenseman. Les was in Finland for a couple of years and is now playing in Germany. He plays in the top league in Germany (DEL) which is considered one of the top leagues in Europe. Lancaster has 15 points (3G, 12A) in 43 games which is second on the team among defenseman. His team, EHC Munchen, is in fourth place in the 14 team DEL. The playoffs will start on March 9. It is crazy when you think Lancaster had 26 goals in a season for Allen and total goals scored by all Allen defensemen this season is 16.

- It is a busy Sunday afternoon around the ECHL with nine games on the schedule. I will be watching the Rapid City at Utah game to see if the Rush can extend its nine game point streak, which is the longest point streak in the league right now. Here is the ECHL Today with all of the previews: https://echl.com/news/2025/02/echl-today-feb-23

DID YOU KNOW: The ECHL Stats post today is about the league's 15, 20 and 30 goals scorers. Allen's top goal scorers are Asuchak (18), Duarte (18) and Watts (17).

There are 78 ECHL players with 15+ goals. Here is the total for each team:
6: *TAH
5: *NOR, *TOL, *TR, *WIC
4: *KC, ORL, *SC
3: ALN, CIN, *FLA, IDH, *IA, *TUL, WOR
2: ADK, GVL, IND, MNE, SAV, *WHL
1: ATL, BLM, *FW, *JAX, RC, REA, UTA
0: KAL

*.600+ point percentage teams

- There are 20 ECHL players with 20+ goals. Here is a breakdown by team:

3: IDH, WIC
2: NOR, TAH, TOL
1: BLM, KC, ORL, RC, SAV, SC, WHL, WOR

- There are 2 ECHL players with 30+ goals:

31 - Cade Borchardt, KC
30 - Brandon Hawkins, TOL

  1. Allen suck along with this entire org. This coach needs to be fired just like BJ. Allen will go bankrupt after this season! What a joke of a team!

    1. Yet here you are…Then go away, kinda solves your stress problem about something you don’t seem to care about. Bye 👋🏼
Ferguson is not to blame for this seasons choices if you knew anything which obviously you don’t since you think Americans will go bankrupt. Troll on

      Delete
    2. There is zero chance the team goes bankrupt lol. Yes it has been a mess on the ice, but their sponsorship money is way up and their ticket sales have been good. Just look at their recent pucks and paws ad on Facebook. It has like 1,000 likes and apparently they have sold thousands of tix already. Do you think those people care if the team loses on the road to KC? No. They don't even know. They come to have fun. I know it sucks the team keeps losing, but the reality is most fans just want to see exciting hockey for the home games. Americans are doing just fine financially as long as they turn it around on the ice next season and don't lose too many season ticket holders.

    3. Agree. Ferguson is absolutely not to blame, hence why so many renewed. Now the fact Costello is litigating for his salary, rent and benefits is beyond disgusting and I would not have renewed has this come to light previously. Myles needs to fix that, file a defense and settle.

    4. I work for Utah and read the blog since we don't have anything like this and I must say Barry you do an amazing job. Quick note though - we do play at Allen once more this year and it says 0 times above. Also yes it has been wild to see Allen skyrocket in sponsorship sales and group ticket sales despite their poor on ice record. good work by their staff and props to their fans for staying loyal.

      Delete
    5. is is wild to blame fergusen for this mess. he did not create this roster, BJ and Joe did. anyone blaming him has no clue how hard it is to build a AA hockey roster mid season.

      Delete
    6. Thanks for your kind comments and for reminding me Utah is coming to Allen for a game. I have it corrected now.

      Delete
    7. So a guy who supposedly works for Utah claims the American's have "skyrocket in sponsorship sales and group ticket sales"? Good try Tissue Boy!

      Delete
    8. Utah has the best broadcaster. He is hysterical. Love how he talks about what going on in the arena, fans and he’s a great game caller.

      Delete
    9. The Americans are not doing well financially, and all the sponsorship money that's supposedly coming in was through Zawyer Sports and Rev, not by Americans staff. And if you need tickets to the dog game coming up, just visit any veterinarian within 25 miles of the arena who they gave 50 comp tickets each to the game

      Delete
    10. This is completely false. Zawyer was fired because of Joe E, but also because they sold $0 sponsorship dollars in 2 seasons and promised Myles millions. They fleeced him.

      Delete
  2. Hah! Kris Knoblauch could be the coach and woundt turn it around with this bunch. Fergie needs an offseason to build a roster. Judging him off what he can do with this SPHL level roster BJ built is ridiclous.

    1. Bingo. Ferguson wasn’t high on my list early this season, in fact I probably attached him to my criticism of BJ and suggested they both be fired, and yeah I thought he was just a video guy. I was wrong. Spend some time around the guy and his hockey brain is off the charts. He knows his stuff. I think he deserves a shot.

      Delete
    2. He has gone 3 13 2 in 18 games and only beaten 1 team. How does that shown a great hockey brain? No thank you! Only management thinks he deserves a shot

    3. Nope he needs to stay retired.

  3. Rapid City and Chad Costello … another win today. 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻
    Big mistake Myles, BIG mistake:
I hope you sue the $hit out of Zawyer.
They sold you a bunch of bull$hit lies and gave you horrendous guidance.
Costello is and will always be a winner.

    1. I would guess many of the pro-costello ones are from Aaron Gens trying to get a job back. Theirs no way fans actaully want a coach back who was under .500 in two full seasons with full control.

    2. And your guess would be wrong

    3. Gens does NOT post on the blog.
The Costello comment above is mine. Long time STH.

      Delete
    4. Gens has moved on. Why on gods earth would he consider ever wanting to come back based on the peanuts he was contracted for? The entire Costello/Gens salary was a joke. I remain perplexed as to why anyone with half a clue would fire a HC/GM and by way of attachment an Assistant Coach, without cause, and solely as retaliation when they were both on the money they were on. Good for Gens, moving into the corporate world and making much more $$$. Gens worked for Allen based on the love of the game. I have no doubt both Costello and Gens are happy they are not attached to this trainwreck of events.

      Delete
    5. I agree a lot of these are probably Gens but do you blame him? He was a profes hockey coach and now he works the front desk at a Stars center and does private skating lessins. I do not blame him for doing all he can to coinvice mr. jack to bring him back. he is probably praying that jack reads the blog.

    6. 8.51am comment. You are waaaaay off base and don't know what you are talking about. Gens is not in contact with the Jack's at all and is not posting on the blog - FACT. Nice try though.

    Here’s a legit question:
Other than emails to buy something or the game day emails that are auto generated, does anyone get other comms from the club? An Americans weekly email? Game recaps? Offers? Merch coupons? Emails with a behind the scenes interviews or catch ups with players?

I do not and I really wonder why there is such disconnect and inability for either these to be sent, or maybe it’s just me and my email is black banned by the club 🤔

    Basic comms one would think.

  13. Anyone who respects or cares about Chad shouldn’t want him returning to Allen—same goes for Marty, Gens, and the rest. There’s no path to success here. This franchise was torn apart and set ablaze; rebuilding to any meaningful level, both on and off the ice, will take years. Why ask someone you revere to join this disaster? Let them be successful elsewhere while this team begins to rebuild. Then get some talent in here. Getting a great coach should come after a big house cleaning.

    1. Myles told me in the concourse at the Rapid game that Zawyer sold zero sponsorships in two full seasons trying, yet he still had to pay them full freight. Bad on him for agreeing to that poopoo deal, but its also somewhat sad. They took advantage of him and then had Ernst hit him with the icing on the cake by bringing in BJ.

      Delete
    2. BINGO. they convinced myles that hiring them to call the shots was the best move, then they did nothing and sold nothing but threw him the Ernst gernade and walked away as it was about to explode. the rebuild is going to take a full offseason but Fergeson can do it with chad as his co coach. Joe need to be banned from allen. it would be a good statement for myles to put that out there. we season ticket holders would appreciate it and chuckle.

Noah Kane appeared in 12 games this season with Cincinnati and had one point (0 goals and 1 assist). He played his collegiate hockey at Long Island University and Mercyhurst from 2021 to 2024.

The 6-foot-1 and 190-pound forward was born in Buffalo, New York and is the cousin of NHL great Patrick Kane.

Brayden Guy joins the Cyclones after appearing in 52 games with the Americans and putting up 17 points (11 goals and 6 assists).

I think you absolutely CAN put him up there with Scotty Bowman.
