The Americans will get back on the ice this afternoon as they will have their first practice of the week. With all of the bad weather and the AEC being closed Allen hasn't practiced since returning home from Kansas City after the game last Monday.
The Allen roster has undergone eight changes in the last week with six players added and two players subtracted. It has clearly changed the makeup of the team. The Americans now have two goalies, seven defensemen and 15 forwards. You could call the Americans the Western Hockey League (WHL) All-Stars because 14 of the 24 players, 60% of the team, are WHL alumni. With an average age of 24.25 years the Americans are the youngest team in the ECHL. Here is the updated roster including the jersey number the new guys will be wearing. - Allen hasn't played a game since February 15 and with the postponement of the two home games against Kansas City this weekend the Americans won't play again until they are in Greenville to take on the Swamp Rabbits on February 25. It will give the team time to practice with the new players and will also allow time for some of the injured players to heal.
- The Western Conference standings have started to tighten as the top two teams (Wichita and Allen) have lost their last two games while the bottom two teams (Kansas City and Rapid City) have won their last two games. There is still some distance from top to bottom with Wichita at .700 and Rapid City at .400.
- Indy lost last night and Florida won so now there are just three teams with point percentages above .675; Indy (.786), Florida (.771) and Wichita (.700). - Allen, Kansas City, and Rapid City became franchises at about the same time with the Rush one year earlier then the others. I decided to look at who is the all-time leader in assists for each team.
Allen - Chad Costello is the all time assist leader for the Americans with 252 assists in 216 games. Chad has 76 more assists than any other Allen player. He played three seasons for the Americans and averaged 84 assists per season.
Kansas City - Sebastain Thinel is the all time assist leader for the Mavericks with 250 assists in 265 games over four seasons. Thinel has 108 more assists than any other player in Mavericks history.
Rapid City - Jesse Schultz, who played for the Rush from 2010-15 is the all time assist leader with 176 assists in 234 games. He is also the all time leader in points for Rapid City with 275.
DID YOU KNOW: Allen has played 23 games and coming up on 25 games played even though it is almost March. Could this be the best 25 game
start for Allen since joining the ECHL? Not quite. If the Americans win games 24 and 25 in Greenville their 25 game record would be 17-7-1-0 for 35 points.
