Allen Wins Wild One, Game Recap, Video Highlights, Martinson's Comments, Player Stats and More

Let's be honest, how many of you thought the specialty jersey and big Saturday night crowd curse had struck again last night when Allen was trailing 4-1 at the end of the first period. Turns out the jersey was not a specialty jersey. The Americans were wearing a third jersey that they will wear several times during the remainder of the season.

- The biggest crowd of the season (5504) watched an entertaining come from behind win by the Americans as they beat Wichita 7-6. It was the most goals allowed (regulation time) in an Allen win since they joined the ECHL.

- It says a lot about the offensive talent of the Americans that they never give up. Allen beat Wichita 6-3 on Friday and 7-6 last night. The Americans came from behind in both games and out scored the Thunder in the third period 7-2.

- There is no doubt Allen won despite not playing their best. The Americans gave up the first goal of the game, trailed 4-1 after the first period, 5-3 after the second period, they lost the special teams battle giving up two power play goals in three Wichita opportunities and the defensive effort was lacking.

- Goals scorers for Allen were Tyler Sheehy (22, 23), Alex Breton (8), Les Lancaster (4), Jack Sadek (4), Brett Pollock (16) and Josh Lammon (6). Here is the video highlight package that is over seven minutes long which is understandable with 13 goals.

STEVE MARTINSON'S POST GAME COMMENTS

- I stopped by coach Martinson's office after the game and to no surprise it was an upbeat locker room after the 7-6 come from behind win. The Americans have won four in a row and have a point streak of eight games. In their last 13 games Allen has a record of 10-1-1-1 and they have outscored their opponents 69-45. Add in the players now have four days off and it was a happy group.

- When I asked coach Martinson if he was happy with the comeback win and the seven goals scored or unhappy because the team gave up six goals. He responded that he was both happy and pissed. It was great to comeback and score seven goals but he was unhappy with the defensive play. Martinson said, "All we talked about before the game was not giving up scoring chances and back checking and then we have a defensive breakdown 49 seconds into the game. We have to play better defensively going forward."

- Allen will play just one game in the next 10 days. They travel to Kansas City to play the Mavericks next Saturday.

OTHER COMMENTS

- Allen has scored a league leading 205 goals this season which at the current pace would give them over 300 goals for the season. The Americans have never scored 300 goals in a season. Here are the top five teams in the ECHL in goals scored this season:

205 - Allen
180 - Newfoundland
172 - Brampton
165 - Utah
161 - Florida
161 - Fort Wayne

- Seven Allen players including three defensemen had multiple points last night. So many players have milestones, here are some examples:

Jack Sadek - had a goal and assist and improved his team leading plus/minus to +28. Jack has moved up to #3 in the ECHL in plus/minus.

Alex Breton - had a goal and assist to extend his point streak to eight games. He leads all ECHL defensemen in scoring with 41 points (8G, 33A).

Tyler Sheehy - had two goals and an assist to extend his ECHL scoring lead to six points. His current total is 61 points (23G, 38A).

Stepan Falkovsky - had two assists and has moved into #6 in scoring by defensemen with 31 points (12G, 19A). His 12 goals is tied for the league lead for defensemen.

Olivier Archambault - had one assist to extend his home assist streak to eight games. He is one game away from the longest assist streak in the ECHL this season.

Josh Lammon - had a goal (the game winner) and two assists to earn the #1 star of the game. In his first 31 games Josh had eight points (1G, 7A). In his last nine games he has 11 points (5G, 6A).

- Tyler Sheehy has 61 points, his point per game average is 1.53. If he averages 1.53 points per game for the remainder of Allen's 23 games he would finish the season with 95 points which would be more points in one season than any player in the history of the team with the exception of Chad Costello. Sheehy currently leads all ECHL rookies in scoring by 24 points.

DID YOU KNOW: South Carolina lost to Florida 5-2 at home last night. It was the third straight loss for the Stingrays. The stingiest team in the ECHL in goals allowed has given up 19 goals in the last three games. The race for the Brabham Cup (best regular season record) has really tightened. Here are the top five in winning percentage:

.756 - South Carolina
.755 - Allen
.739 - Newfoundland
.711 - Florida
.696 - Cincinnati
