Allen Ends Road Trip With a Win, Game Recap, Sheehy Streak Continues and More

It wasn't easy but the Allen Americans finished their road trip with a 5-4 win over the Worcester Railers last night before a crowd of 2002 at the DCU Center.  Playing shorthanded with the entire top line (Gagne, Asuchak, Archambault) missing the Americans dressed seven defensemen and just eight forwards. Allen took a 5-1 lead early in the third period before giving up three unanswered goals. Between the 7:18 and 14:54 mark of the third period, Worcester scored a shorthanded goal, a power play goal and an even strength goal to close the gap to 5-4. The Railers put on pressure with the goalie pulled but Allen held on for the win.

- Allen hit the keys to victory but seemed to run out of gas in the third period at the end of this grueling road trip. The Americans scored the first goal of the game, a power play goal by Jack Sadek with just 14 seconds remaining in the first period. The Americans record when scoring first is now 12-2-1-0.

- The Allen power play was 2-13 in the first three games of this road trip. Last night the power play was 2-4. The penalty kill gave up one goal in four opportunities. A good job on special teams was a key.

- The Americans were out shot in the final two periods 34-14 including 15-6 in the third period when Allen gave up three of Worcester's four goals.

- The goal scorers for Allen were Jack Sadek (3), Jared VanWormer (9), Alex Breton (4), Jordan Topping (8) and Cole Fraser (3). Another game that showed the depth of this team with five different players scoring goals.

- Tyler Sheehy had two more assists last night to extend his point streak to nine games and has at least one point in 12 of the last 13 games. He has had multiple points in seven straight games. Tyler now has 34 points (10G, 24A) and is tied for the ECHL lead in scoring. His 24 assists are the tops in the league. Here is a breakdown of Sheehy's recent scoring binge:

17 points (4G, 13A) in last seven games
19 points (5G, 14A) in last nine games
25 points (6G, 19A) in last 13 games

- Tommy Daniels talked to Sheehy after the Allen win last night:

- Alex Breton had a goal and an assist against Worcester. After a slow start to the season when Breton had just one goal and seven points in his first 17 games he has now had at least one point in eight of the last 11 games. In the last 11 games Alex has 13 points (3G, 10A). He is #5 in the ECHL in scoring by a defenseman.

- There is no rest for the weary as the Americans had a very early wake up call this morning to drive to Boston for their flight home. I am sure everyone is looking forward to the Christmas break after the Wichita game.

- I will have a complete Allen vs Rapid City preview tomorrow morning but it is worth noting while Allen has been doing a lot of playing and traveling the Rush have been resting all week. They have not played a game since last Saturday.
