The Allen Americans beat the Tulsa Oilers 5-3 last night to extend their winning streak to four games, the longest of the season. A crowd of 6144, on Teddy Bear Toss night, watched Harrison Blaisdell cause the Teddy Bears to rain down in the first period, after Tulsa had taken a 1-0 lead.
- The game was close for two periods, with the teams trading goals. Tulsa scored the first goal of the game midway through the opening period, before Blaisdell scored his eighth goal of the season at the 15:02 mark on the power play. The first period ended with a 1-1 tie. Allen had a 14-12 edge in shots.
- The back and forth continued in the second period. Tulsa scored a power play goal 81 seconds after puck drop to take a 2-1 lead. Allen responded just 45 seconds later, tying the score 2-2 on Danny Katic's sixth goal of the season. That was the end of the second period scoring. Allen had a 14-11 advantage in shots.
- The Americans took control of the game in the third period, thanks to two more Katic goals (7, 8) at 6:38 and 8:00 to take a 4-2 lead. Tulsa pulled its goalie, which led to a Brayden Watts empty-net goal, his team leading 10th goal of the season. It looked like Katic could have scored the empty net goal for his fourth of the game, but unselfishly opted to pass the puck to Watts. It was disappointing to see Allen give up a late goal after they took a 5-2 lead. Costantini deserved a better defensive effort than giving up a 2-on-1 goal with a three-goal lead and 102 seconds left in the game. With that said, Costantini has won six straight games, stopping 188 of 198 shots for a .950 save percentage. Marco will get a rest tonight, David Tendeck will get the start in Tulsa.

STEVE MARTINSON'S POST-GAME COMMENTS
"It is good to see the scoring coming from all over the lineup like we have seen recently. It was fun to see that line get some goals tonight, as they have been a little frustrated lately. A key to our success is getting scoring from all of the lines as we have recently."
"I felt bad for our goalie giving up that 2-on-1 goal at the end of the game. That really pissed me off."
"Games are a lot more fun now, wouldn't you agree? We got some good hits in the game."
"It was nice to get a power play early, but then we fell asleep on our power play chances. We are not shooting the puck enough on the power play. We need the fans to start chanting shoot. shoot, shoot, so I am not the only one yelling to shoot."
"We bus up to Tulsa tomorrow, and we have to win another game before finishing the four games in five days in Kansas City on Sunday afternoon."
OTHER COMMENT
- If you follow the Allen lineup closely, you have noticed there have been a lot of line changes over the first part of the season. Many factors play into line combinations. Coach Martinson has told me it is no fun for him to juggle lines, as it is tough to keep track of who goes with whom. Here are some of the factors Martinson considers when he decides the lines:
- Home games, where the coach has the last change, call for different line combinations than road games.
- Early in the season, Martinson juggles lines in an attempt to get the most out of each player.
- Some players are best when they play with the right people.
- Some players are capable of playing on any line.
- If an opposing team loads up the best players on one line, it changes how Martinson puts his lines together. At home, he will load up a line to play against that top line.
- If an opposing team spreads out its best scorers, the lines can change.
- The more complete a player is, the more likely they can play with anybody. Duarte is in the AHL because he is that type of player.
- Sometimes on the road, a team is matching up against one of our lines, so Martinson will break that line up.
- Another factor in line combinations is something Martinson has always talked about. He believes whoever is going gets the ice time. If a player is having an off night and his two linemates aren't, that player will get moved.
- Martinson has always said he tries to keep two players together who have chemistry.
- Other factors in line combination are trying to have a puck carrier, a playmaker, and a net front guy on every line. Toughness on every line is also a consideration, as is speed.
The goal is to have lines that stay together, and if you noticed, last night was the first game all season where there were no line changes from the previous game. In Coach Martinson's words, "we are getting closer," and I read that to mean you will see lines staying together more in the future, but for all the reasons above, there will always be exceptions.
- The pure hat trick by Katic was Allen's fifth hat trick of the season (Blaisdell, Duarte, Watts, Crone). Katic had a four-point game and leads the team in points per game (1.29), which ranks him #4 in the ECHL in points per game (minimum 10 games played).
- The odd stat of the day is Allen's five hat tricks represent 24% of all the hat tricks in the ECHL this season. There has been a total of 21 hat-tricks thus far, and the Americans have five of them. A total of 16 teams do not have a single hat trick.
The Americans are just a third of the way through the season and already rank #4 in most hat tricks in a season, since Allen joined the ECHL in 2014-15. Here is the list of the most hat-tricks in a single season.

For any1 wondering what we all meant when we said MARTY PARTY, you now have your answer. The games are fun again. Packed crowds, bears flying from the sky, the boys in red whooping that Tulsa butt. The Americans are back. The stink of last season is now completely gone. Even when we lose, ifs at least competitive
ReplyDeleteMy daughter and I love our Martinson Patriots club free bobbleheads we got. Looks just like him actually lol. You never know with bobbleheads but this one looks spot on.
ReplyDeleteBarry, any insight as to the strike vote that was undertaken for the players to overwhelmingly strike? If the season is shortened, every game counts.
ReplyDeleteThat would be sad if the players did a strike, but I would guess the league would just replace them with SP and Fed players within a few days. Doubt more than a game or two would be cancelled if any.
DeleteIf you were in the players position, you'd strike too!
DeleteThis falls to Ryan Crelin, who has been a failure other than collecting a fat paycheck and collecting expansion fees.
Did deeper and understand the facts here and you'll support the players too! I'm sorry, but games will be cancelled, SP and Fed players wont fix the issues at hand.
What are the facts to dig deeper for? It's double A hockey. Almost all the teams lose money and the players want more money that just isn't there. That expansion money you speak of probably gets real thin when it's chopped up between 30 teams. The coast is a developmental league. Plus they all get free housing and healthcare. That ain't cheap.
DeleteFormer ECHL Forward Nick Isaacson made his officiating debut the other night in Idaho, tag-teaming with Brendan Schreider and refereeing the Rapid City/Idaho tilt. He is also on the ice tonight refereeing the game.
ReplyDeletePlayed in Allen, Signed but never played with Dundee, and now he's refereeing on the ice. Good for Nick!
Barry if you are able can you tell us more about the strike situation on the blog tomorrow?
ReplyDeletewould be curious to know more too. Have to imagine Marty having such good ties to the Fed will help us get the best replacement players. Could actually be good for us.
DeleteAgree! We have an unofficial affiliate with topeka and I bet athens would help out too
DeleteExactly! Topeka owes us for Marty bringing all those guys into camp and Athens would help him too after what he did for them last season. Hoping the players don't strike, but if they do our replacement players would be the best in the league. Just depends on if the AHL players are part of the strike. Obvi we don't have many of those :/
DeleteKidding right?
DeleteSP and Fed players WILL NOT be playing if there is a strike.
The focus needs to be on what the players are not getting today, just to name 2, no increase in salary cap for 5+ years, meaning players are capped on what they make, despite the roster expanding, and another is health insurance. It is only valid for the season - not a year, eg: Oct 1 thru Oct 1. It's horseshit.
Ryan Crelin needs to get off his a$$ and fix the mess.
For those doubters, the vote was well over 70% of players wanting to strike. That's a FACT.
I'm not interested in watching SP or Fed players skate around purporting to represent the Americans. I want the league to protect our guys and do the right thing. They deserve it.
Lolz that is a wildly bad take. The truth is the ECHL will replace the players with "scab" players. It's standard strike procedure. Look at any other sports strike. During a lockout, which is when the owners tell the players they can't play, the games don't go on. During a strike, which is when the players tell the owners they won't play, the games go on. The "scabs" come in from lower leagues + a lot of players will choose not to join the strike. Show goes on whether the current players want to play hockey or not.
DeleteWrong. 100% wrong.
DeleteApparently all the ECHL players got a memo tonight with info on the negations. League offered them a 13% raise. a big hike in per diem and backpay all the way from October. I wish I got a 13% raise ha ha. They'd be foolish not to take that or they will be replaced by FPHL players. Sadly at this level only a small handful of fans actually care about which specific players are on the ice. They just come to the games to drink and have fun.
ReplyDeleteWhere did you see this
Delete13% ?
DeleteIf true, that isn’t even close to what’s needed. That’s less than CPI over the last 5 years. It also fails to represent things today.
That’s a woeful offering.
OP dumbest comment on the blog for 2025.
DeleteNo pay increase for 5+ years and you’re ok with 13% from what you were making in 2019? Seriously?
You’re out of touch.
https://phpa.com/news/3205
Deletehttps://phpa.com/site/agreements
DeleteThe increases in the last CBA were a joke. Increasing a teams weekly payroll by $300 is nonsensical. 13% is weak. Credlin pockets $400k+ a year and the ECHL (a non profit) has reaped millions in expansion fees. The AHL is a separate CBA, the NHL diverts its cash now to the PWHL, the ECHL needs to fix things. I support a strike, let’s see what the ECHL does, and the governors do, when they will be forced to either refund tickets, or extend credits in mtg 26/27.
DeleteEither way, team owners (governors) will be screwed, so fix it now.
To those supporting the ECHL’s position, would you be ok with your health insurance stopping when you went on vacation?
DeleteThe players have health insurance during the season ONLY. It stops immediately after the season ends. They don’t have PTO or vacation time from Oct-April, possibly May or June.
That’s bull$hit.
Yes I would be ok getting a 6 month "vacation" every summer Lol.
DeleteAnd no insurance? By the way, its less than 6 months.....
Deletehttps://www.wglt.org/local-news/2025-12-20/union-representing-bloomington-bison-hockey-players-authorizes-strike-over-contract-issues
ReplyDeleteFire Ryan Crelin. He’s a puppet. Time for everyone to step up and do the right thing for the players.
ReplyDeleteI think the players realize they only work half the year, get free housing, and make a livable wage. This is AA hockey. The demand of fan interest just isn't there to pay them much more. Hopefully they come to grips with that or yes the league will obviously use scab players and keep the season going once they have time to fill the rosters.
