Allen Trades for Defenseman Reggie Traccitto - The Details, ECHL Franchise News, Asuchak Returns

While the Allen Americans were winging their way to Alaska yesterday the anticipated trade was formally announced. Forward Jonathan Parker and the rights to defenseman Justin Baker (who left the team in late November) were traded to the Brampton Beast for defenseman Reggie Traccitto (pronounced trac-SHEE-toe) and future considerations. Future considerations are never specified in trade announcements but given the players involved in this trade, my opinion is it would be a safe to assume that Allen will get a second player as the future consideration.

Traccitto will be meeting the team in Anchorage but not in time for the game on Wednesday. If all goes as planned he will be in the line up on Friday night. If you are on Twitter give Reggie a follow and welcome him to Allen: @rtraccitto95.

Reggie has had an interesting path in his hockey career. He is a 26 year old rookie who played eight games for the Ontario Reign (ECHL) in 2010-2011 after completing a five year career in junior hockey. When told he was being put up for trade by Ontario, Traccitto made the decision to take the University route and with the help of his coach landed at the University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI).  Reggie played at UPEI until graduating last year with a Sociology degree. In his 120 college games, Traccitto had 97 points (37 goals 60 assists) and 165 penalty minutes. In his final collegiate season he recorded 29 points (10 goals 19 assists) along with 44 penalty minutes in 28 games.  After completing his college eligibility last season he played in two games with the Toronto Marlies (AHL).

Traccitto was signed by the Toronto Marlies ECHL affiliate (Orlando Solar Bears) this past August but was traded to Brampton on October 23 having never played a game for Orlando. When acquired by Brampton head coach Colin Chaulk had this to say about Reggie, "He is a player who has been on our radar for some time. He is a great two way player who can help us score goals."

Coach Steve Martinson had this to say about Traccitto, "Reggie adds offensive depth from the point. He has a big shot, is tough, and can jump up in the play which is a formula that has worked well for us in the past."

Here are a few other interesting facts about Reggie Traccitto:

- While growing up in Ontario, Reggie played lots of box lacrosse (an indoor version of field lacrosse) where he teamed up with NHL superstar John Tavares to win multiple provincial championships.
- Throughout most of his early hockey career Reggie played primarily as a forward. It wasn't until late in his junior career that he permanently converted to defense.
- In addition to his Canadian passport Reggie also has an Italian passport and had discussions with some Italian professional teams before deciding to go back to school for his final year and get his degree.
- In his last two years in college, Reggie was selected to his conference (AUS) first all-star team and was on the second team across all Canadian Universities (CIS).
- In 2014 Reggie was selected by the UPEI Alumni Association as the UPEI Male Athlete of the Year.
- When not playing hockey Reggie enjoys fishing and hunting.

The video below is from March of last year when Reggie played a couple of games for the Toronto Marlies (AHL) after finishing his college eligibility.
