CHL Sold To Team Owners

CHL Sold to Team Owners (Central Partners, LLC)

Central Hockey League Sold to Team Owners

Central Partners, LLC Set to Lead CHL to New Heights

GLENDALE, AZ (June 20, 2013) – The Central Hockey League (CHL) is pleased to make a historic announcement as the League is now under the ownership and control of Central Partners, LLC, a collection of the franchise owners in the League.

The CHL now becomes an ownership owned league as the group is excitedly making plans to carry the two decade plus history of the League to new historic success.  Wichita Thunder Co-Owner Rodney Steven II has been named the Interim Chairman of Central Partners, LLC.

“The owners of the CHL’s clubs are proud to stand arm-in-arm as we move the League forward,” said Steven.
“The passion and vision of this group will help our League grow and will help the CHL earn the status of one of the top sports leagues in North America.”

“This process has been underway for some time now and with the collection of great minds and accomplished professionals that compose the ownership groups of the League’s teams, we are confident that the sky is the limit for the heights the CHL will rise to,” said Michael Carper (Co-Owner of the Missouri Mavericks and member of Central Partners, LLC).  “Great things are set to come for the CHL’s member clubs and for the fans of the teams and League.”

The CHL’s 22nd season is set to begin in October with 10 teams participating in the 2013-14 campaign including expansion franchise in Brampton, Ontario (Beast) and in St. Charles, Missouri (Chill).

“As the Central Hockey League moves forward into a new era, we are excited to have the group of team owners take ownership of the League,” said Duane Lewis, CHL Commissioner.  “This positive step is meant to put the CHL on its best foot forward as the owners’ common goal is one of competition on the ice, but full team support off the ice.  For the fans of the CHL, the transition is a seamless one, as they will see renewed rivalries, and new rivalries emerge, and a tremendous sense of pride as the teams take to the ice and their communities for the upcoming season and beyond.  Thank you to our longtime supporters, and to the new fans who come out to support their local teams.  See you on the ice soon!”

Central Partners, LLC would like to thank the former owners’ of the Central Hockey League, the Western Professional Hockey League, Inc., in particular Jim Treliving, George Melville and Rick Kozuback, for all their work over the last 20 years in moving the league forward and for all of their efforts in making the transition to Central Partners, LLC a successful one.  Additionally, the new League ownership group is pleased that the Quad City Mallards will remain under the ownership of QCM Holdings, Inc., with Jordan Melville and Rick Kozuback as Directors.

Jim Treliving, President of WPHL Texas Holdings Inc., states, “I am very proud to have been involved in the ownership, management and operations of the Central Hockey League over the past 20 years and look forward to the continued success of the Central Hockey League under the new ownership group.”

Ticket Prices, CHL Ownership, PHPA Meetings, Skinner, & More

Brett Skinner photo by SceneByKimberly.com
Nice to see so many American's fans congratulating Brett Skinner and his Grand Rapids Griffins on winning the Calder Cup last night over the Syracuse Crunch. I am sure it has happened before but to be part of two championship teams in one season is a remarkable feat. As a reminder how important Brett was to the the Americans championship season he was the quarterback of the power play while in Allen and his 30 assists in the 28 games he played was third on the team for the entire season. The power play while he was here was at 25% and after he left it struggled to stay above 10%.You work so hard to win a championship and then you get two rings in one year. Again as a reminder you could say that Brett Skinner’s journey to the AHL championship as a member of the Grand Rapids Griffins’ blueline was longer than most. He just finished the eighth year of his professional career. He’s suited up for 15 different teams, spanning six countries, 10 states (and one province) and three trades between seven different NHL organizations. Job well done Brett as this couldn't happen to a more deserving guy.

- Boston Pizza Restaurants has assumed ownership of the Quad City Mallards, the Mallards announced at a press conference today.
Jordan Melville, president of the T & M Group of Companies, the owner of Boston Pizza Restaurants, will serve as a director of QCM Holdings- the Mallards’ ownership group- and as a member of the CHL executive committee.  Rick Kozuback will also act as a director of QCM Holdings. Mr. Melville confirmed at the press conference that the CHL ownership has changed and now all the teams in the league share in ownership.

- It seems to me several of the other teams in the CHL (Rapid City, Missouri, Quad City) have reached out to their boosters/fans to talk about what has transpired with the league but the Allen Americans have made a decision to not talk about what has happened. There approach seems to be we were in the CHL last year and we are in the CHL next year so what is the big deal. Let's just talk about the championship and not these other distractions. If that was a decision that management made it is unfortunate in my mind. I hope I am reading this wrong and we will still hear something and can then move on.

- The Professional Hockey Players' Association (PHPA) is holding their annual meeting of player representatives this week in Orlando, Florida. One Player Representative from each of the thirty American Hockey League (AHL) twenty-three ECHL, and ten Central Hockey League (CHL) teams attend the meetings on behalf of his teammates, providing input and direction to guide the Association for the coming year. The American's player representative is Mike Berube. Haven't heard from Mike but saw a message from one of the attendees that said, "long first day of PHPA meetings. Unfortunately had to spend almost entire day focusing on 1 of our 3 leagues. Tough deal all around." That one league was the CHL. I know the situation in Fort Worth where players were kicked out of their apartments in violation of the collective bargaining agreement was one of the issues discussed but from what I heard there were many other concerns raised regarding the CHL.

-  Took a quick look at ticket prices around the league and the following is what I found. I tried to make this an apples and apples comparison so I looked at cost per game of full season tickets and took top price (glass seats) and end zone price rounded to the nearest dollar. I did not look at loge, suite, or club seating. A couple of teams have cheaper upper level seating but I did not include those prices. Here it is:

                Glass        End Zone
 Allen         $32         $12
Arizona      $21         $12
Brampton   $30         $14
Denver       $38         $19
Missouri    $32          $12
Quad City  $20          $9
Rapid City $27          $10
St. Charles $30          $14
Tulsa          $24          $12
Wichita      $20          $11

- St. Charles Chill sent this message to their new potential season ticket holders today:

- It is well known that sports fans in Europe are very passionate and that is certainly true in the EIHL where Brian McMillin just signed with the Coventry Blaze. The press release was issued in England around midnight Texas time and by the time the sun came up in Allen six hours later Brian's twitter followers had doubled.

- Sorry I don't have any new information concerning the Americans team itself. I have stopped by the AEC a couple of times but there is nothing new related to the coaches, players, etc. Most of the staff is busy with championship celebrations as the Presidents' Cup continues to be on display at many corporate sponsors. Tomorrow is our turn here at Heritage Ranch as the Cup will make a visit. Hope to do an interview with the Cup and follow it around as it goes fishing, plays golf, tennis, volleyball and visits with fan club members. Check back Friday morning for my blog post, "An Exclusive Interview With The Presidents' Cup."

Brian McMillin Interview With His New Team

Here is a Q & A Brian did regarding his move to the Coventry Blaze in England. It is written by Paul Wheeler who writes a blog called Chasing Dragons. If you would like to keep up with Brian and his journey to England and follow the team during the season and you are on twitter give Paul a follow @fourthlinewing. His web site is at chasingthedragons.wordpress.com

In the run up to the new season, Chasing Dragons will catch up with as many Blaze players as possible and ask them ten questions about life and hockey. We start with the Blaze’s newest signing, forward Brian McMillin.
Brian McMillin is a guy who’s already starting to create a little excitement in Coventry. The 6’2, 203lb American forward was announced as signing only on Friday morning, but since then Blaze forums and Blaze fan Twitter have been abuzz with quiet excitement over his arrival and what role he’ll play. You can understand the excitement, though-it’s not often a team gets to sign a current champion and playoff MVP, both honours that Brian won last season.
After his signing was announced Brian kindly agreed to answer some questions about his hockey career, his move to Europe and what Blaze fans can expect from him this season for me. And here they are. Brian’s answers are in italics, anything that isn’t is my addition:
Q- What made you decide to leave North American hockey and try your luck in Europe?
It’s been a goal of mine to eventually play in Europe since college and I felt like it was good time in both my career and personal life to give it a shot. Q- What made you decide to play in the Elite League, and particularly with the Blaze, this season?
I’ve talked to quite a few guys who have played in the Elite League (Brian played with current and former Nottingham Panthers Bruce Graham and Dominic D’Amour in Allen in 2011/12, and also former Dundee Star Mark Nebus, for example) and they all seemed to think it would be a good fit for me. They all had good things to say about Coventry as well, and after talking with the team I felt comfortable enough to make the jump.
Q- You’re from Minnesota-one of the hotbeds of hockey in North America. Growing up, did you want to be anything but a hockey player?
Haha no, not really. I have post-hockey aspirations but hockey has always been number one.
Q- How would you describe your style of play?
I think I am a smart, 2-way player. I take pride in my defensive play and try to use my size to be a force around the net in the offensive zone.
Q- What would you say is your best quality on the ice?
Consistency. I don’t have the high end talent of some but I keep my game at a high level by working hard and smart on a nightly basis.
Q- What’s your favourite career moment to date?
I would say finishing off our President’s Cup run in Allen this year. Winning my first championship, especially the way we did it, will always be special.
Q- You’re from a small town in Minnesota (Roseau) where high-school hockey is incredibly important-what was it like being captain of one of the best high school teams in North America and do you think it helped you as a player?
It was a great experience. Anytime your teammates make you a captain its a great honor, and when you are given that responsibility I think you have to take your game to another level. It definitely helped me grow both as a person and a player.
Q- You’ve spent much of your career being used as a defensive forward (in college and the CHL), but in Coventry you’ll probably be relied upon for scoring as you were in Allen’s championship run-are you excited by the chance to play a more offensive style?
I definitely look forward to being relied upon more in the offensive zone, but I also don’t think I will have to change my game much to get that done. Even in the playoffs this past year I played a defense first game while taking advantage of my opportunities offensively.
Q- Moving from Minnesota to Colorado and then Texas means you’ve already spent most of your hockey career far from home…are you looking forward to seeing as much of the UK as you can while over here?
Yes, absolutely. I love to travel and look forward to seeing all the UK has to offer.
Q- Have you been keeping an eye on the competition in the EIHL? Any teams you’re particularly looking forward to playing?
Yes, I know a lot of guys who have played in the EIHL so I have always kept up with the league. I’m just excited to get going and experience playing in some different places.
Brian certainly sounds excited to play here…and while it takes a lot to get me excited about a player, I am about this signing-he seems to me to be a similar type of player to Dan Carlson. And we all know how well THAT signing turned out…
My thanks to Brian for taking the time to answer the questions, and welcome to Coventry. It looks like there may be a few McMillin jerseys around the Skydome stands next season…

McMillin Signs to Play in England, Ownership & More

Brian McMillin has signed to play in the United Kingdom for the 2013-2014 season. He will play for the Coventry Blaze of the Elite Ice Hockey League. After coming off a great championship year with the Americans and being named MVP of the playoffs Brian and his wife Wendy have decided they want to experience hockey in Europe. It was a tough decision for them as they love playing for the Americans and living in North Texas.Obviously this is a big loss for the Americans as well as me personally but it is a great opportunity for Wendy and Brian to see a different part of the world while playing hockey. Our best to them both as they will be missed. A side benefit of making this decision early is Brian and Wendy will be able to spend a couple of months at home (Roseau, Minnesota) before heading to England in August. The EIHL season starts around the first of September. Here is the official news release from the Coventry Blaze. I apologize for the font color if this is hard to read:
Genting Casino Coventry Blaze can confirm the signing of American forward Brian McMillin for the 2013/14 Rapid Solicitors Elite League campaign.

The 25-year-old Minnesota native arrives at the Skydome fresh from being named the Most Valuable Player in Allen Americans’ Central Hockey League play-off triumph following a Game Seven win over Wichita Thunder.

The Ray Miron Presidents’ Cup success was the franchise’s first championship and they also became just the eighth CHL team to win the regular-season and post-season title in the same campaign.

McMlliin has spent the last three seasons with the Americans, posting 112 points (51 goals and 61 assists) in 178 regular-season and play-off matches. Last season, he registered 30 points (15 goals and 15 assists) in 58 regular-season appearances and 20 points (12 goals and eight assists) in 19 play-off games on his way to collecting the post-season MVP.

After four years with Colorado College in the NCAA – being named in the All-Academic Team twice – McMillan had 14 games for Kalamazoo Wings in the ECHL prior to joining the Americans.

Coach Matt Soderstrom said: “Brian was named the MVP for Allen Americans which is a team stacked with talent.

"He scored some big-clutch goals and got 30 points in the regular-season – some of their big guns got 50 so he was somewhere in the middle of a talented team which was the best in the league and very deep.

“We spoke to the guys at Allen Americans and to other people as well as they all had great things to say about Brian.

“He has a big upside and will have a lot more responsibility with us and can go to another level. He is a team player and does everything well. Brian will compliment our other forwards and we expect 20-plus goals from him next season.”

Director of Hockey Operations Paul Thompson said: “We have been looking at Brian for the last four to five weeks. We have done our research on him and he is someone who knows what it takes to win. You don’t get to sign many guys who are coming off being named the MVP in the play-offs!

“We think Brian will be a perfect fit for us. All the feedback we got on him was positive. He is a guy who is dependable and will be the glue around our offensive talent.”

McMillin, who scored the game-winner in matches 2 and 4 of the Americans' play-off triumph, said: “I am very excited about making the move to Coventry. I can't wait to get things going.

“Winning my first pro championship in overtime of a Game 7 was definitely an incredible feeling, one I hope to experience again soon. Winning the play-off MVP was just the cherry on the top.

“I take a lot of pride in being a consistent, two-way player. I'm not flashy but I will find a way to get the job done. I hope to help improve the team in both ends of the ice as well as on the PP and PK. My only goal for next year is to help bring championships back to Coventry.”

McMillin joins Steven Chalmers, Ross Venus, James Griffin, Mike Egener, Adam Henrich, Benn Olson, Mike Schutte, Russell Cowley, Mike Zacharias, Matt Selby, Dale White, Adam Goss, Michael Henrich, Ryan Ginand, Sean Erickson and Ashley Tait on next season's roster.

I have tried to find out anything new that is happening with the team and the league but after being gone for three week there isn't a whole lot I can share.

- Haven't seen or heard anything official about the lawsuit that ended with the court ruling against the Americans. Not sure if anything will be said about the entire process that took place. While it is time to move on and focus on next season in the CHL I have heard from many of you that you would like some explanation as to what transpired. The Rapid City Rush made a passing comment in the letter they sent out to season ticket holders which said in part, "This spring we were accepted entry into the ECHL. However, due to timeline constraints we are unable to make the transition feasible for the upcoming 2013-2014 season." I guess we will have to wait and see if the Americans make any comments.

- Ownership issues continue to swirl around the league. What is known for sure is the Missouri Mavericks ownership has purchased the St. Charles Chill. The Mavs VP of Communication, Patrick Armstrong, has been named Executive Vice President of the Chill. The Wichita ownership has supposedly purchased the Tulsa Oilers put I can find nothing official on this transaction. The other ownership issue that is still not resolved from what I read on various message boards is the ownership of the CHL itself. There was plenty of talk about some of the team owners (Missouri & Wichita among others) trying to buy the CHL. I would assume if this issue had been resolved something would be publicized. Stay tuned.

- I have been asked by some of you when the official league meeting will take place. I would assume some of these other ownership issues need to be resolved before the league meeting is scheduled.

- While I have been assured there are no Americans signed at this point other teams are starting to announce signings. Missouri had a press conference yesterday for fans and the media and announced the return of four players. Here is a portion of the press conference info:

Player Signings
The Missouri Mavericks announced the team has re-signed four players for the 2013-14 season. Forwards Sebastien Thinel, Andrew Courtney, John-Scott Dickson and defensemen Dave Pszenyczny will all return for the 5th season of Mavericks hockey.
“With these signings, we add four talented players that will be entering their 3rd full seasons with the Mavericks. They represent a strong nucleus that encapsulates what it means to be a Maverick,” said Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations, Scott Hillman. “They all have great character and are committed to the success of this franchise. We all have felt the heartbreak of the game 7 loss in each of the last two years together and this group is committed to help get us over that hump. We could not be more pleased than we are to have these fine men and their families with us as we enter our fifth season and strive to capture the CHL championship.”
Home Opener November 2 at IEC
The Mavericks will open up the home portion of the 2013-14 season on November 2 at Independence Events Center at 7:05 p.m. The Mavericks will also host the traditional New Year’s Eve game with the remainder of the Central Hockey League schedule coming mid-August.
Other Announcements: The Mavericks will unveil a special season 5 jersey promotion. Starting July 1, all fans will be able to vote at MissouriMavericks.com for their favorite jersey over the past four seasons. The top 5 jerseys will be featured in jersey giveaways throughout the season. There will be two adult jersey giveaways, 2 youth jersey giveaways and one for all season ticket holders. Also, as a thank you for the season ticket holders who have been with us for all five seasons will be given a $50 gift card (per account) to the team store.

I found it interesting that they have already been given their home opener date. Also it was announced at the press conference that they are going to give all season ticket holders that have had season tickets from the beginning (five years) a $50 gift certificate to the team store as a fifth anniversary gift. Nice touch I hope the Americans follow.

- While no players have been signed for next year you can be assured that Allen will have another strong team this season. There are so many positives to playing in North Texas and for this team that the Americans will be as strong as ever. If just a few of the names I hear talked about get signed we will all be super excited.

- While there is no official  news on the return of Martinson and Matvichuk my guess it is merely a matter of timing with all of the other activity surrounding the team. Just a matter of time in my opinion.

- I took a quick look at how many players return to the team each year and found the following:
1st year to 2nd year - seven players returned
2nd year to 3rd year - six players returned
3rd year to 4th year - ten players returned (this includes Pineault, Hendrikx & McKenzie)

- Brett Skinner has been a healthy scratch during the Calder Cup finals between his Grand Rapids Griffins and the Syracuse Crunch. From what I understand a player was sent down from the NHL club that has resulted in Brett not dressing in the finals. He has played well since being called up mid season and played in the playoffs until the finals. Grand Rapids leads the series 3-0. Don't feel too sorry for Brett as he is one win away from claiming two championship rings in one season. WOW!

Americans Staying in CHL?

Have been getting lots of contacts about the legal action that has supposedly resulted in Allen & Rapid City playing in the CHL next season. I'm still out of pocket on my fishing trip but from what I can determine this court action is true but has  only been reported unofficially. It is also unclear if additional court action is possible. My guess (emphasis on guess) is we will be in the CHL. If the teams don't put out something today (Monday) it would make one wonder if something more is going on. I for one, am ready to get this behind us so we can start focusing on the building of the team for next season.

Weekly Update - 5/22/13

Welcome to the first weekly update of the off season. I have to admit I'm already looking forward to next season. However, the celebration of the Presidents' Cup continued all last week even as players were completing physicals and heading home. From the Fan Fest celebration at the Allen Event Center (AEC) the day after the championship game, to a team dinner at Bob's Steak & Chop House, to the season ticket holder event at Fairview Down Under, a trip to the Ranger's game to watch Yu Darvish pitch, to a gathering at Renegade Cigars the players had lots of opportunity to show off the hard earned trophy and fans had a chance to see it up close and personal and have their picture taken. The trophy has been to baseball games, schools, concerts, fan club outings and will continue to make appearances over the summer.

- The other topic of conversation amongst the diehard fans is when will there be an announcement concerning what league the Americans will be playing in next season. I'm sure there is a lot happening behind the scenes but things are somewhat quiet other then the same rumors I outlined last week  in my "Rumors Post" (May 13). The St. Charles Chill web site started taking deposits for season tickets but there is no detail. The web site is just a shell. Bloomington has left the CHL and will play in the SPHL. Fort Worth is supposed to announce this week they are not playing in the CHL this fall.  I did come across the info below on one of the message boards from someone in Rapid City which is nothing official, just rumor but interesting nevertheless.

"The ECHL welcome banners do reside at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center (home to the Rush) and Allen will be joining us. From what I gathered, there are/were indeed some legal hurdles and Allen is/was directly involved with us in these rumblings. As we all know - Allen has quite a bit more monetary resources than we do. They mentioned that the Rush were looking into other options last off-season, but - were told by the CHL that Casper would be moving in cutting down on expenses by providing a closer team. This also coincides with our owners venturing out to Casper and possibly even owning a stake in that organization. Although they could not give a date on the announcement - they expect it will be done sometime during the ECHL finals. Again, take it for what you will - but, I do not believe the individual that provided me this information has any reason to "stir the pot" - they will have a job either way."

- I thought it would be interesting to look at average attendance this season by league to see the variance and this is what I found:
AHL (AAA) - 5711
ECHL (AA)  - 4695
CHL (AA)  -   3706
SPHL (A)   -   2804
USHL         -   2649 (Tier 1 Junior)
NAHL        -   1524 (Tier 2 Junior)

As a frame of reference the NHL had attendance ranging from a high of 21,775 (Chicago Blackhawks)  to a low of 13,306 (New York Islanders).

Was looking at the list of playoff MVP's after Brian McMillin got the award this year. Some interesting names on the list. I had forgotten Wichita Thunder bad boy Les Reaney was the MVP when Rapid City beat the Americans in the 2010 finals. And of course Jason Deitsch was the MVP in 2009 when the Brahmas won. Two former Erik Adams teammates in Colorado are also on the list. Chris Hartsburg, son of NHL (Minnesota North Stars) great Craig Hartsburg, is now an assistant coach with the Erie Otters of the Ontario Hockey League & Greg Pankewicz is an assistant coach with the Colorado Eagles (ECHL).

CHL Playoff Most Valuable Player

2013 – Brian McMillin, Allen Americans
2012 – Mike Vaskivuo, Fort Wayne Komets
2011 – Jeff Kyrzakos, Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs
2010 – Les Reaney, Rapid City Rush
2009 – Jason Deitsch, Texas Brahmas
2008 – Rob McVicar, Arizona Sundogs
2007 – Greg Pankewicz, Colorado Eagles
2006 – Jeff Bes, Laredo Bucks
2005 – Chris Hartsburg, Colorado Eagles
2004 – David Guerrera, Laredo Bucks
2003 – Kahlil Thomas, Memphis RiverKings
2002 – Don Parsons, Memphis RiverKings

- For those not following the ECHL Kelly Cup finals The Reading Royals lead the Stockton Thunder 3-0 and can wrap things up Friday night in Stockton. Reading was the number one seed in the 14 team Eastern Conference while Stockton was the number four seed in the 9 team Western Conference.

- In the AHL race for the Calder Cup they still don't have the second round of the playoffs completed. In the Western Conference the Oklahoma Barons defeated the Texas Stars and will play the Grand Rapids Griffins who defeated the Toronto Marlies. Good luck Brett Skinner who had an assist in the last three Griffins victories.
In the Eastern Conference the Syracuse Crunch swept the Springfield Falcon 4-0 and await the winner of Wilkes-Barre and Providence. The series is tied 3-3 with the seventh game tonight in Providence.

- The Brampton Beast are continuing full speed ahead as I found this  advertisement:

Brampton Beast Hockey Club

Application Deadline: May 31, 2013   Starting Date: June 3, 2013
Position: Director of Public Relations
Job Description:
The Brampton Beast are seeking an experienced community and public relations professional for a full time employment opportunity. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is looking to continue/develop a career in the sport and community/public relations industries. This is also an exceptional opportunity for someone who has a strong desire to be part of a brand new and growing organization in the sport of hockey.

- Went into the team store yesterday and was surprised that there is not any championship merchandise. Sure seems like a missed opportunity to make some money and get more recognition in the community. Also, noticed the team store hours have been greatly reduced and I assume it is because there is very little merchandise to sell.

- This will be my last update until I return from two weeks of fishing in Canada & Minnesota and my son's wedding in Washington DC. I know a lot will happen between now and then so there should be a lot to talk about in my next update which will be June 12.

Thank You, Thank You, Thank You

While we are all still basking in the glory of a hockey season that ended in dramatic fashion and in a way that will never be forgotten it is time for me to say my thank yous to all involved. I sure consider myself lucky to have started this blog during this magical year that ended with a championship. The first month (October) there were 900 page views on the blog. It has steadily grown to a point where yesterday there were over 1300 pages views. To go from 900 page views per month to 1300 page views per day is mind boggling.

Who would have imagined a blog started for the Heritage Ranch Allen Americans fan club now reaches people all over the US and Canada as well as the hockey hotbeds in Europe on a daily basis. It proves Americans fans are all over the world.

I want to start out by thanking all of the fans that frequent this blog. It has been my pleasure to meet many of you and your words of encouragement in person, comments at the end of each blog post, on Twitter, Facebook and email have been very satisfying and inspiring.

Thanks to the many fans, bloggers, and media from all over the league that have promoted the blog as fair and balanced and also have shared information with me about their teams. One of the unexpected benefits of writing the blog was getting to know all of the passionate fans from the other CHL teams.

Jim Wiley, Director of Hockey Operations for the CHL spent more time with me than I deserved to help educate me about rules, discipline, rosters, and officials. Jim was open and honest and gave me a perspective that helped my understand how difficult his job is. Thanks Jim.

Thank you to the players who have never said no to a single request I have made of them for a chat, an interview or a question. The player profile interviews I started this year took about 90 minutes of the players time and they all said yes when I asked. I have gotten to know most of these young men both professionally and personally and they have represented the Americans in an outstanding manner.

One of my goals when I started the blog was to share the personal stories of the players. The wives/girlfriends, parents, brothers and sisters I have met have been great in sharing family stories which I have then been able to share on the blog.  Thanks to all of you.

Thanks to Steve Martinson, Richard Matvichuk, Kacee Coberly, & Jason Wallace for always being willing to talk to me and help educate me. A special thanks to coach Martinson for allowing me to record almost every word he had to say in a public forum so I could get the word out to all of you that come to the blog for information.  Even when I posted information about a player coming to Allen that might have cost us the ability to get the player signed Coach was understanding and compassionate. (I was scared to death when he approached me however).

A special thank you to Tommy Daniels, Director of Communication & Broadcasting who has been a tremendous help to me all season. He encouraged me to start the blog, made me feel like part of the media team, answered many questions, let me stop by his office on almost a daily basis to get current information, publicized the blog to attract new readership, and invited me to part of the between periods conversation on his radio broadcast to talk hockey and promote the blog.

I have learned more about the game of hockey this year than I could imagine and it is because of the many conversations I had with Bill McDonald. Always willing to share his thoughts and explain the intricacies of the game from a coaches perspective. I know he will be missed by everyone but nobody will miss having Macker around the AEC more than me. Thanks Macker.

Thanks to Erik Adams, Tom Manning & Rob Ciccotelli for letting me bother them with questions when they are busy with other duties. Erik has been the liaison with the fan club at Hertiage Ranch and has devoted many hours talking to the fan club and helping me arrange for guests at our fan club meetings.

Unlike most writers, bloggers, and other media types that cover the Americans I have a dual role as in addition to being a blogger I also coordinate the activities of the fan club at Heritage Ranch. In this capacity I spend a lot of time in the front office of the Americans arranging for season tickets, suites, individual game tickets, seats for soldiers tickets, and other promotions. I want to thank Robert Fatta and Samantha Cuppen for all the help they have provided and especially Mike Martin who has gone above and beyond the call of duty to help out our fan club.

Finally thanks to Matt Canavan, club President who is always willing to answer all of my questions about how the league operates and any other questions I may have.

So a magical season has come to an end. I have been a season ticket holder since the beginning so I have been following the team since its inception but this year was different. I was able to see the team from a different perspective and the access I was given by the entire organization helped me bring the story to the blog.

This will be my last daily blog post until the fall. I plan on posting once a week during the off season so I hope you will all check in to see what is happening with the team and the league. I also have two unfinished stories to complete this summer. One is on an unsung hero of the team, equipment manager Kacee Coberly and the other is a story about the bus. I'm going fishing for two weeks (Ontario & Minnesota) on May 23rd so these stories will have to wait until I return. If you are on Facebook please give a "Like" to Allen Americans Blog and if you are on Twitter please give me a follow (@allenamericans1) as I will post to Twitter & Facebook whenever I put new content on the blog.

                                                       Thanks again,  Barry
