Allen Loses 5th Straight to Idaho, Game Recaps, Video Highlights, Martinson Comments, Streaks, Stats, Attendance Update and More

The good news is Allen managed to earn a point in Idaho last night. The bad news is the Americans lost 6-5 just 20 seconds into overtime. Here is how bad the weekend went for the Americans in Boise:

  • Allen lost twice and has still not beaten Idaho this season, 5 straight losses.
  • Allen has lost three straight games for the first time since November 21.
  • Allen gave up 12 goals in the two games in Idaho.
  • Allen had a total of two power play opportunities, went 0-2, and allowed a shorthanded goal.
  • Allen's great penalty kill faltered, with a 50% penalty kill, giving up three goals in six attempts.
  • To add insult to injury, the team's flight home was cancelled. They won't leave Boise until Monday afternoon.

- Despite the loss, there were some positives out of the game last night.

  • Allen scored five goals.
  • Allen scored the first goal of the game.
  • Allen led 1-0 after the first period.
  • Allen scored 23 seconds after Idaho took a 2-1 lead in the second period.
  • Allen led 3-2 after the second period.
  • Allen scored to tie the score 5-5 late in the third period, 19 seconds after Idaho took the lead.
  • Allen earned one point.

- Goal scorers for Allen were Spencer Asuchak (9), Hank Crone (10), Michael Gildon (10, 11), and Colby McAuley (14). Colton Hargrove had two assists in the game. Here are the video highlights: https://echl.com/videos/allen-americans-vs-idaho-steelheads-jan-24-2026

- Here is the goal-by-goal game recap from both teams:

- Next up for the Americans are seven straight home games, starting with a 3-in-3 against Rapid City on Friday. Saturday and Sunday. The following week, Norfolk visits the CUTX Event Center on February 4, 6, and 7. This will be a chance for Allen to get back on the winning track.

- I had a chance to talk to Coach Martinson this morning. He is spending the day putting video together to use at practice when the team returns, and also videos of penalties that weren't called. Here are some of his thoughts:

"We score plenty of goals to win games. It is hard for a coach to produce more offense, but we have that covered. It is our defensive play that is killing us. There are no excuses for some of the defensive lapses we have."

"I know we have a core group of guys that can win in the playoffs. I know I have to add some guys to make us stronger, but we also need the guys who are creating offense to be better defensively. And you can't say I will do it in the playoffs, we have to do it now."

"Our defensive play cost us three points this weekend. Guys we are counting on need to be better defensively. If we are going to have success defensively, it has to be led by our established players."

  1. Iowa is down on their already really bad attendance? How have they not relocated yet? Those fans don't show up and support them at all.

  2. Why can’t we beat Idaho?

You can’t always blame the rafts, but the one-sided referee affair last night was absolutely sickening.

Granted, we have areas of improvement, but come on. It can’t be so blatantly one-sided that it’s like a comedy show of referees.

    1. Or it’s because we can’t/wont play defense?

    2. There were missed calls both sides. It was far from 1 sided.
Americans love to turn the puck over. That is on them.

    3. Lapses in defense is the main problem we are having losing games especially against teams like Idaho, KC and Tahoe. Boys you can do better! There is really no excuse for defensive break downs.

    4. Not caring on defense contributes to that result! Cimon guys play a complete game !

    5. Lapses for seconds end up costing games. No reason we couldn’t have won both games in Idaho. I think the optics are worse that we left 3 points on the ice. Could have bridged the gap to Tahoe and Idaho.

    6. Because we get outplayed plain and simple. Always looking for the perfect offensive play and sleep walking on defense!

    1. FREE TICKETS SHOULD NOT COUNT

    2. Allen got half smart. They wont send emails to STH offering free tickets. They've filtered the emails, but they are still going out in large amounts to other emails....

If you're friends don't have tickets, don't get them tickets, because your tickets cost money, their tickets will be free!

      Delete
    3. Why are they giving out free tickets in the first place while continuing winning about high operating expenses?

      Delete
    4. Because of the aesthetics to the ECHL of improving attendance, and to sell the number to advertisers, whom they are still courting.

      Delete
    5. Listen, I have no probs with JM and team wanting to fill the CUTX. I just don't want to pay thousands for my tickets and the folks next to me $0.

      Delete
    6. Oh, they for sure let us know and are happy to tell us that they paid $0 for their tickets, different folks every other game, surprised they scored seats next to long time STH who pay every game. By the end of the game, their commitment to the Americans going forward is, "we'd love to be STH but these free tickets are great. We don't mind different seats each game. No need to ever spend money on tickets".

    7. HVP should get the lead from the free tickets. He'll convert them to STH in short order.

    8. For all those complaining about free tickets to get butts in the seat, why don't you just give up your season tickets and get free ones every game? This topic is yet another dead horse that keeps getting beaten. I pay for me, I don't worry about what others do or get free

      Delete
    9. I did! Never been happier. Free tickets and I make sure the arena gets none of my money on food and drinks. They are thieves. Go Red.

      Delete
    10. So you want to support a team but only when you get in free and don't have to pay for food or drink? Is that really supporting a team?

      Delete
    11. Yep, seems like it is

      Delete
    12. There appears to be tremendous frustration over the free tickets. it comes up every year, multiple times a year because people feel frustrated by the almighty dollar that is spent vs. your seat mate getting the same for free.

      Valid argument.

Huffines should be giving a buy one get one free with EVERY car sold and serviced at their dealerships. As a longtime Huffines customer, that isn't happening today. It might alleviate some of the frustration. One day a month McDonalds and Layne's and other food partners can do the same. It's a marketing numbers game, based on the volume if the take rate is 5%, the arena is full every night. Have blackout dates for games we know will sell out.

    2. I am wondering how many free tickets they are giving away to boast these figures.

  5. I kinda want brandon hawkins or kyle crnkovic I know super unrealistic but when our goalies aren't having a great night we can out score our problems

    1. Most likely we will get to pick a player from a selection of players Bloomington chooses. I think Marty wanted Brad out of here. He's fallen back on the lines and Marty was frustrated with the play at times.
